The US House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform plans to make public files it has subpoenaed in connection with the Jeffrey Epstein case, but only after redacting material to protect victims’ identities and sensitive information, a committee spokesperson said on Tuesday.

The panel is due to begin receiving documents from the Justice Department on Friday, though public release is expected later. The spokesperson said the committee would work with the department during the process.

“The Committee intends to make the records public after thorough review to ensure all victims’ identification and child sexual abuse material are redacted,” the spokesperson told CNN.

“The Committee will also consult with the DOJ to ensure any documents released do not negatively impact ongoing criminal cases and investigations.”

Republicans in Congress have called for greater transparency on the matter. Speaker Mike Johnson has delayed until September a vote on making the Justice Department’s Epstein files public. The Louisiana Republican has said he supports openness but wants to give the administration time to handle the release.

House Republicans are expected to face a vote on the issue when they return to Washington next month.

Virginia Foxx, chair of the House Rules Committee, said on Tuesday she hoped the matter would be resolved through the Oversight Committee’s work before any vote was required.

“Chairman Comer has mentioned that he’s getting the material that he’s asked for from the Department of Justice,” Foxx said, according to CNN.

“I’d really like to see this resolved, if possible, before we get back, as much information as possible to come out.”
