In UAE, employees can now receive their salaries in digital wallets. Here’s how

UAE-based du Telecom has an innovative service, allowing people to receive their salaries through digital wallets. On Monday, the UAE’s second telecom operator, du, launched its latest offering, ‘Salary in the Digital Wallet’ (SITW) feature through du Pay, its secure mobile payment service.

How to receive salary in your digital wallet

According to du Telecom, du pay users can use the International Bank Account Number (IBAN), which they receive while signing up, to get their salaries credited directly to their digital wallets.

Du Pay also allows UAE residents to transfer money globally, pay bills, recharge telco accounts, order a debit card, and make card payments. Users can access their funds instantly through the du Pay mobile application, and also with a physical du Pay card for cashless transactions.

du pay is available in multiple languages languages including in Arabic, English, Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, Bangla and allows instant money transfer to more than 200 destinations around the world.

Du pay said that the service will be beneficial to residents earning less than Dh5,000 (Rs 1.18 lakhs) per month, who typically have limited or no access to traditional banking services.

Growing popularity of digital wallets

According to Khaleej Times, the use of digital wallets is growing in the UAE, especially among expatriates from Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and other Asian countries for remitting money to their home countries.

“The shift towards digital payment solutions is driven by a growing fintech ecosystem and enhanced payment infrastructure, while the rise of digital wallets is expected to further accelerate financial inclusion,” du Telecom said.

According to Research and Markets, the prepaid card and digital wallet market in the UAE is projected to grow by 12.7 per cent annually, reaching a value of $8.28 billion in 2025.
