Former President Donald Trump distanced himself from the January 6, 2021 US Capitol attack and the riot which followed, and declined to accept the idea that his conduct that day should cost him the backing of Republican voters.

In his response to a former Republican supporter at the Univision event’s televised town hall, Trump said, “Nothing done wrong at all.” The former Republican voter said that he stopped supporting Trump after his response to the riot and Covid pandemic.

He also questioned Trump about the non-support towards him by those who held high positions in his administration, including former Vice President Mike Pence.

Trump stated, “Only a very small portion don’t support. But because it’s me, somebody doesn’t support them and they get a little publicity.”

Indicating former Vice President Pence’s refusal to accept Trump’s demands from certifying Democrats’ Joe Biden election win, Trump said, “The vice president, I disagree with him on what he did. I totally disagreed with him on what he did.”

During the townhall, Trump claimed that thousands of supporters who gathered at the Capitol Hill on January 6 weren’t because of him. Though, on December 19, 2020, Trump had tweeted, “Big protest in D.C. on January 6th. Be there, will be wild.”

Defending himself, Trump said on Wednesday, “They didn’t come because of me. They came because of the election. They thought the election was a rigged election, and that’s why they came.”
