Israeli Hostage Release Today Timeline: Israelis on Monday prepared to welcome the last 20 living hostages from Gaza after being abducted by Hamas for 737 days and mourn the return of the dead hostages in a key exchange after a breakthrough in ceasefire.

The 20-point Gaza peace deal, sponsored by the US President Donald Trump, was signed between Israel and Hamas in Egypt last week during indirect talks, following which Hamas was expected to release hostages held in Gaza, while Israel would release about 2,000 Palestinian prisoners and withdraw from the Gaza territory to a pre-agreed yellow line.

President Trump, who is poised to reach Israel on Monday morning, said while aboard the Air Force One that “War in Gaza is over” and expressed confidence that the ceasefire in Gaza would hold. According to the White House schedule, Trump is slated to visit Israel and meet hostages’ families and speak at the Knesset, Israel’s parliament.

Here is a timeline for the hostages release:

  • When will the Gaza hostages be released: The 20 living hostages are expected to be released by Hamas on Monday around 8 am or 9 am local time (10.30am or 11.30am IST). The hostages will be handed to the International Committee of the Red Cross and then to the Israeli military. The military would take them to the Reim military base where they’ll be reunited with their families.
  • Where will the hostage release take place: The hostages are expected to be released from three different locations in Gaza, namely Gaza City, central Gaza, and Khan Yunis in southern Gaza, reports have stated. The release of the dead hostages could begin in the late afternoon on Monday, Ynet reported.
  • Where will the hostages be taken after releasing: If hostages are stable, they would meet their respective families in the Reim base and are slated to move to three hospitals: Shiba, Ichalov, and Beilinson, reported Jerusalem Post.
  • What happens if hostages are not stable: However, if any living hostage appears to be in need of medical aid, a helicopter would then take the hostage to Soroka Medical Center or to Barzilai Medical Center.
  • Will the hostages be released in batches: The hostages are expected to be released in three different batches: two from two different locations around 8 am local time (10.30am IST) and a third at another location one hour later, CNN reported.
  • Palestinian prisoners release: After the hostages cross over into Israel, Tel Aviv is expected to release about 2,000 Palestinian prisoners and detainees who would be driven into Gaza, according to the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Office.
