An American man who made threats against Taylor Swift on social media was detained prior to her first concert in the German city of Gelsenkirchen and will remain in custody until the conclusion of her shows there, police reported Thursday.

The 34-year-old suspected stalker, whose name was not disclosed, possessed a ticket to Swift’s concert at Gelsenkirchen’s Veltins-Arena on Wednesday, according to a police statement. Due to concerns raised during initial investigations, he was apprehended during entry checks at the event.

Police noted the man had posted threats against Swift and her partner on social media, leading to his detention following alerts from event organizers. The American pop star is scheduled to perform in Gelsenkirchen on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday as part of her Eras Tour. A local court ordered the suspected stalker to remain in custody until Saturday, as per police. Authorities reassured that neither Swift nor the audience faced any danger during Wednesday evening’s concert, which drew around 60,000 attendees and concluded peacefully.

Prior to the concerts, Gelsenkirchen temporarily renamed itself “Swiftkirchen” and honored Swift on a local “Walk of Fame” dedicated to notable personalities. Following Gelsenkirchen, Swift is set to hold concerts in two other German cities, Hamburg and Munich.
