A man rammed his car into the security gate of the FBI’s Pittsburgh field office in Pennsylvania, US, early Wednesday in what the agency called a “targeted attack.”

The vehicle struck the gate around 2:40 am (local time), after which the driver retrieved an American flag from the back seat and hurled it over the gate before fleeing the scene, the Associated Press reported, citing authorities.

“This individual exited the vehicle, removed an American flag from the backseat, and threw it onto the damaged gate. The individual then left the scene on foot,” FBI Pittsburgh said in a post on X.

No FBI personnel were injured. Investigators, including a bomb squad, combed the site, while officials noted that the suspect had previously visited the office to lodge a complaint “that didn’t make a whole lot of sense,” according to assistant special agent Christopher Giordano.
