At least four people were killed and 10 others injured n a shooting during a family gathering at a banquet hall in Stockton, sheriff’s officials said Saturday, reported AP.
The incident occurred during a child’s birthday party, Stockton Vice Mayor Jason Lee said in a Facebook post, as reported by Reuters. The injured were taken to local hospitals.
“I am in contact with staff and public safety officials to understand exactly what happened, and I will be pushing for answers,” Lee said.
Police received reports of gunfire near the 1900 block of Lucile Avenue shortly before 6 pm. In a post on X, the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that “approximately 14 individuals were struck by gunfire, and four victims have been confirmed deceased.”

“Early indications suggest this may be a targeted incident, and investigators are exploring all possibilities,” the sheriff’s office said.
Local officials said the suspected shooter has not been caught and urged anyone with information or video footage to come forward.
“Community assistance is vital in helping us identify those responsible and bring justice to the victims and their loved ones,” the sheriff’s office added.
