Visit to IIT Delhi and Delhi government school

During her visit, Amarasuriya toured the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, where she interacted with researchers and faculty members. According to officials, the visit focused on India–Sri Lanka collaboration in higher education and innovation.

She later visited the Sarvodaya Co-Ed Vidyalaya in Rohini, accompanied by Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood, to learn about the capital’s public school model. The visit highlighted modern infrastructure, digital classrooms, and new teaching methods introduced under Delhi’s education reforms.

Both sides discussed possible areas of cooperation such as teacher training, vocational education, and sustainability in schools. A proposed “Delhi–Colombo Education Bridge” aims to promote exchange programmes for students and teachers, and partnerships in sustainable school design and innovation.

‘Education is the foundation of partnership’

Sood said in a post on X that the visit “showcased modern infrastructure, innovative teaching practices and a digital learning environment.” He added that the “visit provided a meaningful opportunity for interaction with students and teachers, reflecting the shared belief that education is the foundation of progress and partnership.”

He also said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the guidance of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the Delhi government is committed to strengthening public education and developing future-ready schools.

During the visit, Amarasuriya interacted with students, observed classroom activities and viewed student projects. She commended Delhi’s education model, saying it could serve as an example for other developing nations, PTI reported.

Sood said the visit would further strengthen educational cooperation and dialogue between India and Sri Lanka. Both leaders, along with Chief Minister Gupta, are alumni of Delhi University, giving the visit a symbolic touch.
