Russia and Ukraine agree to Black Sea ceasefire, White House confirms

Both Russia and Ukraine have also agreed to implement measures to halt strikes on energy infrastructure and will continue working toward a lasting peace.

Marking a breakthrough in the ceasefire talks, Russia and Ukraine on Tuesday agreed to avoid military action against ships in the Black Sea, the White House announced.

The deal which came out following talks that ended in Saudi Arabia, aimed at ensuring safe navigation in the Black Sea, eliminating the use of force, and preventing commercial vessels from being used for military purposes.

Additionally, both nations have agreed to implement measures to halt strikes on energy infrastructure and will continue working toward a lasting peace.

In its Ukraine-specific readout, the White House reaffirmed US commitment to facilitating prisoner-of-war exchanges, the release of civilian detainees, and the return of forcibly transferred Ukrainian children.

For Russia, the US pledged assistance in restoring access to global markets for agricultural and fertilizer exports, reducing maritime insurance costs, and improving access to ports and payment systems.

The US vowed to continue mediating negotiations in alignment with agreements made in Riyadh.
