Moscow on Friday summoned Italy’s ambassador to express outrage over an Italian journalists’ alleged illegal crossing into Ukrainian-controlled parts of Russia’s Kursk region, where they reported for Italian state broadcaster RAI, according to Reuters.
The Russian Foreign Ministry issued a strong condemnation of the RAI film crew’s activities, claiming they had entered Russian territory without authorisation to report on the situation there.
In a statement published on its website, the foreign ministry said, “A strong protest was expressed to the Ambassador in connection with the actions of the film crew of the Italian state television and radio company RAI, which illegally entered the territory of the Russian Federation,” as reported by Reuters.
In a broadcast milestone, RAI aired the first international media report from Sudzha, a Russian town seized by Ukraine in the recent counteroffensive against Russia.
Yielding to Ukrainian military guidance, the Italian journalists captured and broadcast devastating images of Sudzha, a town ravaged by war, while under the protection of Ukrainian forces, Reuters reports.
On Friday, Baza, a Telegram channel linked to Russian law enforcement, revealed that Russia’s interior ministry is considering criminal charges against two Italian journalists from RAI for allegedly breaching Russian borders without authorisation.
