US President Donald Trump’s former White House intern, 27-year-old Karoline Leavitt, has made history as the youngest White House press secretary in the country’s history. Leavitt, who made her debut in the briefing room this week, echoed her boss’s inaugural speech, declaring that “the golden age of America has most definitely begun.”
The Gen Z conservative has promised to engage with all media outlets, as well as “new media voices who produce related content,” including “independent journalists, podcasters, social media influencers, and content creators.”
Leavitt previously worked as a spokesperson for Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign. She began her career in politics as a White House intern before joining Trump’s team after earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in politics and communication.
During her time at the White House, Leavitt served as a presidential writer and assistant press secretary. In 2022, she became the first Gen Z Republican to win a GOP primary. Before her appointment, the record for the youngest press secretary was held by 29-year-old Ronald Ziegler, who took the role in 1969 under President Richard Nixon.
Donald Trump has described Leavitt as “smart, tough,” and “a highly effective communicator,” while she portrays herself as a trailblazing Gen Z conservative.
A staunch Trump loyalist and gun rights advocate, Leavitt previously shared a video on Instagram of herself firing a machine gun at a shooting range, captioned: “Joe Biden come and take it.”
“I have the utmost confidence she will excel at the podium and help deliver our message to the American people as we make America great again,” Trump stated in November.
Karoline Leavitt is also a new mother, having given birth to a son in July last year during Trump’s election campaign. Despite becoming a mother, she refused to take maternity leave and returned to work just four days after giving birth, following an assassination attempt on Trump.
Leavitt is married to real estate tycoon Nicholas Robert, who owns a multimillion-dollar business and is 32 years older than her. The 60-year-old proposed to her on Christmas 2023.
Sharing her engagement on Instagram, she wrote: “The best Christmas of my life. I get to marry the man of my dreams. I feel so overwhelmingly blessed. Thank you, God.”
