Former US President Joe Biden diagnosed with prostate cancer; PM Modi ‘deeply concerned’

Former US President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, his office confirmed in a statement released on Sunday.

The statement said Biden, who left office in January, has “an aggressive form of cancer.”

“On Friday, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterised by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone,” his office added.

The cancer “appears to be hormone-sensitive,” which could help doctors manage the illness more effectively.

Biden and his family are currently discussing treatment options with his medical team.

When caught early, prostate cancer is highly survivable, but it is also the second-leading cause of cancer death in men. About one in eight men will be diagnosed over their lifetime with prostate cancer, according to the American Cancer Society cited by news agency AP.

PM Modi concerned about Biden’s health

Prime Minister Narendra extended his wishes to former US President Joe Biden. In a post on X, Modi said, he’s deeply concerned to hear about the President’s health.

“Deeply concerned to hear about Joe Biden’s health. Extend our best wishes to him for a quick and full recovery. Our thoughts are with Dr. Jill Biden and the family,” the post read.
