Israel intercepts missile launched from Yemen as vigils mark 7 October anniversary

A surface-to-surface missile launched from Yemen towards central Israel was intercepted on Monday, according to the Israeli military. The missile triggered air raid sirens across wide areas of central Israel, prompting residents to seek shelter.

“Following the sirens in several areas of central Israel, the surface-to-surface missile fired from Yemen was successfully intercepted by the Israeli Air Force,” the military stated. The origin of the missile was not specified, but the Iran-backed Houthi movement, which controls northern Yemen, has repeatedly targeted Israel in the past year in what it claims is support for the Palestinians.
