Israel-Hezbollah ceasefire in fragile position as both accuse each other of violations

The Lebanese authorities reported that at least 11 people died and three were left injured from Israeli strikes as Tel Aviv’s military said it struck dozens of Hezbollah targets throughout Lebanon.

For the first time since the ceasefire took place between Israel and Hezbollah, the militant group has fired two projectiles toward Israeli-occupied territory amid repeated strikes by Israel, bringing the ceasefire agreement under shadows.

The Lebanese authorities reported that at least 11 people died and three were left injured from Israeli strikes as Tel Aviv’s military said it struck dozens of Hezbollah targets throughout Lebanon.

The exchange of fire which took place between the two warring factions has led the ceasefire agreement brokered by the United States in a fragile position. Beirut residents even told Reuters that they heard drones flying overhead at low altitudes in the evening.

Both sides have accused each other of ceasefire violations while the Hezbollah projectiles targeted Israeli military’s positions in Shebaa Farms area and the Iran-backed militant group termed it as “defensive warning strike.”

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Monday said that “Strikes were in response to several acts by Hezbollah in Lebanon that posed a threat to Israeli civilians, in violation of the understandings between Israel and Lebanon.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also termed Hezbollah’s strike “a serious violation of the ceasefire” and vowed to retaliate against it in a statement. But CNN reported that the US and French government have warned Israel against the violations of the ceasefire deal terms.

According to a statement from a source in the United Nations peacekeeping force in Lebanon, UNIFIL, Israel’s violation of the ceasefire agreement with Lebanon goes up to “approximately 100” times, reported CNN.

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar posted on X, “The presence of Hezbollah operatives south of (Lebanon’s) Litani is a fundamental violation of the agreement and they must move north.”
