India marked its 79th Independence Day on Friday, August 15, commemorating the country achieving independence from the British in 1947. The celebrations were not limited to India, and Indians across the world also joined in the festivities to mark the 79th Independence Day.
Nowhere was this more visible than in the Middle East, which is home to the largest community of Indian expats. Indian Embassies and Consulates in the Arab countries – Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates led the official celebrations, which included the hoisting of the national flag, community gatherings, and cultural events.
In Bahrain, Indian Ambassador Vinod K Jacob hoisted the tricolour at an event held at the Indian Embassy. The 79th Independence Day celebrations were also attended by nearly 1,500 members of the Indian community in Bahrain.

In Kuwait, Indian Ambassador Adarsh Swaika led the official celebrations to mark the 79th Independence Day. Over 3,000 members of the Indian community in Kuwait also attended the event and also participated in the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign. The Amir, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Kuwait also extended their greetings to the Indian community on Independence Day.
In Oman, Indian Ambassador GV Srinivas hoisted the national flag at the Independence Day celebrations at the Indian Embassy in Muscat. The 79th Independence Day celebrations also saw a display of India’s diverse culture and vibrance.
The 79th Independence Day of India was celebrated with traditional fervor in Qatar. Indian Ambassador Vipul hoisted the national flag at the official ceremony held at the Indian Cultural Centre, Doha.
Official celebrations of the 79th Independence Day of India in Saudi Arabia was led by Indian Ambassador Suhel Ajaz Khan at the Indian Embassy in Riyadh on Friday. Saudi ruler, King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman extended their greeting to the Indian community on Independence Day.

Sunjay Sudhir, the Indian Ambassador to the UAE, led the official Independence Day celebration at the Indian Mission in Abu Dhabi.
