US President Donald Trump has called on pharmaceutical companies to explain the results of their Covid-19 drugs, saying the public deserves clarity on whether they were effective.

Writing on his Truth Social platform, Trump said there was disagreement over the role the drugs played.

“With CDC being ripped apart over this question, I want the answer, and I want it NOW,” he wrote.

“I have been shown information from Pfizer, and others, that is extraordinary, but they never seem to show those results to the public,” Trump added. “They go off to the next ‘hunt’ and let everyone fight over the success or failure of their Covid work.”

He urged the companies to share their findings with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the wider public.

“I want them to show them NOW, to CDC and the public, and clear up this mess, one way or the other,” Trump said.

He also questioned whether Operation Warp Speed, the government programme to fast-track Covid treatments and vaccines, had delivered the results claimed.

“I hope Operation Warp Speed was as ‘brilliant’ as many say it was. If not, we all want to know about it, and why,” he wrote.
