A week before the release of his film Dhurandhar, Ranveer Singh appears to have upset a section of the audience. The actor is facing backlash online after a video from the closing ceremony of IFFI (International Film Festival of India) went viral. In the clip, while praising Rishab Shetty’s performance in Kantara Chapter 1, Ranveer refers to Chamundi daiva as a “female ghost,” and then goes on to imitate the character on stage.

In the video, Ranveer is heard saying, “I watched Kantara Chapter 1 in theatres, and Rishab, it was an outstanding performance, especially when the female ghost (Chamundi daiva) enters your body — that shot was amazing.” He then goes on to imitate the character on stage by crossing his eyes and sticking his tongue out. Pointing at Rishab, he adds, “Anybody here want to see me in Kantara 3? Tell this guy.”

Many on the internet have slammed Ranveer Singh’s remark and act, calling ‘insensitive’ and ‘disrespectful’. One of the users wrote on X, “Ranveer’s reaction to the Kantara scene really felt unnecessary and disrespectful.” Another user commented, “Ranveer Singh is literally mocking Daiva Chaundi’s possession in Kantara. How low these movie stars can go for fame, money, with zero respect for sacred Tulunad Daivaradhane beliefs. Shame. Rishabh is enjoying that mimic?” A third user wrote, “Making fun of the GOD. You will see what happens with #Dhurander Mr Ranvir Singh.”

Another comment read, “Dear @RanveerOfficial, you don’t know the difference between God and Ghost …Chavundi is Goddess, not ghost …And you are literally mocking on a big stage…” Another upset netizen commented, “I hope being an ardent devotee of Daivas, @shetty_rishab called out that clown @RanveerOfficial to not enact Daiva like that. That too in a comic way. No, neither do we want Ranveer, nor do we want another Kantara. Enough is enough.”

While Ranveer Singh continues to face backlash for his remark and act, many are demanding an apology from the actor. However, both Ranveer and Rishab Shetty are yet to comment on the incident.
