Epstein Files Release Live Updates: After the House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed the bill with a 427-1 vote, the US Senate also approved the measure with a unanimous consent that sent the measure to President Donald Trump’s desk to sign and force the Justice Department to release the Epstein files related to late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The decisive bipartisan work done in the US Congress on Tuesday highlighted the pressure on lawmakers and the Trump administration to release the Epstein files.

Trump’s reversal on Epstein files: President Donald Trump has reiterated several times that he cut ties with late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein years ago, but tried for months to ignore the demands for a full disclosure of files related to the deceased financier. However, many in the Republican party have continued to demand to release the Epstein files. Adding to the mounting pressure, survivors of Epstein’s abuse rallied outside the US Capitol on Tuesday demanding the release of files.

Senate plans to act quickly: As the bill cleared the House of Representatives with a thumping majority, House Speaker Mike Johnson pressed for the Senate to amend the bill in order to protect the information related to “victims and whistleblowers”. But Senate Majority Leader John Thune didn’t show much interest in Johnson’s notion, saying he doubted that “amending it is going to be in the cards.” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer asked the Senate to pass the Epstein Transparency Act and no senator objected, meaning the bill now heads to Donald Trump to sign.

Summers did not detail exactly what stepping back would entail, saying in a statement that he would continue to teach and promised to “rebuild trust and repair relationships with the people closest to me.”

“I am deeply ashamed of my actions and recognize the pain they have caused. I take full responsibility for my misguided decision to continue communicating with Mr. Epstein,” Summers said.

Epstein Files Release Live Updates: Who is Clay Higgins, the only House member to vote against releasing the Epstein files?

Both Democrats and Republicans alike readied for a unanimous House vote Tuesday to pass a bill to force the release of the c ase files on the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. But in the end, one lawmaker stood alone in opposition: Republican Rep. Clay Higgins.

Higgins, who is in his fifth term representing a congressional district in southwest Louisiana, explained in a lengthy statement that he was “a principled ‘NO’ on this bill from the beginning.” He raised some of the same objections that House Speaker Mike Johnson, another Louisiana Republican, had with the bill, yet even Johnson said Tuesday he would vote for it because, “None of us want to go on record and in any way be accused of not being for maximum transparency.”

For Higgins, a fervent Trump supporter and a member of the ultra-conservative House Freedom Caucus, that wasn't a problem. (AP)

Epstein Files Release Live Updates: How House Speaker Mike Johnson handled the Epstein bill

Rather than waiting until next week for the discharge position to officially take effect, House Speaker Mike Johnson held the vote under a procedure that requires a two-thirds majority.

But Johnson also spent a morning news conference listing off problems that he sees with the legislation. He argued that the bill could have unintended consequences by disclosing parts of federal investigations that are usually kept private, including information on victims.

“This is a raw and obvious political exercise," Johnson said. Still, he voted for the bill. “None of us want to go on record and in any way be accused of not being for maximum transparency,” he explained.
