Former US President and this year’s Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump, had just begun speaking, when four shots were fired, one of which pierced Trump’s right ear. He soon grabbed his bleeding ear just before dropping to his knees behind the podium, where he was delivering his speech at a Pennsylvania campaign rally on Saturday. Soon, Secret Service agents swarmed and covered him. While this barrage of gunfire set off panic, Trump pumped his fist in a show of defiance as he apparently yelled “fight, fight, fight” before agents ushered him into his vehicle.

The suspected shooter was killed, while the incident left one rally attendee dead and two other spectators injured, the Secret Service said in a statement. An eye witness who talked to the BBC said that he saw an armed man, with a rifle, crawling up a roof near the event. The shots appeared to have come from outside the area secured by the Secret Service, the security agency said. The incident is being investigated as an assassination attempt, says Reuters.

The shooting occurred less than four months before the November 5 election, when Trump faces an election rematch with Democratic President Joe Biden.
