US President Donald Trump on Friday announced that he has renovated the bathroom inside the Lincoln Bedroom at the White House. Sharing pictures of the renovation, Trump said its previous design was inappropriate for its time.

“I renovated the Lincoln Bathroom in the White House. It was renovated in the 1940s in an art deco green tile style, which was totally inappropriate for the Lincoln Era,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social.

“I did it in black and white polished Statuary marble. This was very appropriate for the time of Abraham Lincoln and, in fact, could be the marble that was originally there!”

Lincoln Bedroom

The Lincoln Bedroom was originally used by President Abraham Lincoln as his office and Cabinet room.

It was last renovated by Harry S Truman, the 33rd president of the United States. Earlier this month, Trump spoke about renovating the room while speaking about his plans for the White House Ballroom.

“The bathroom was done by the Truman family a long time ago and done in green tile, and it’s done as — in a style that was not exactly Abe Lincoln,” he said. “It’s a style that is not good … it is actually art deco and art deco doesn’t go with 1850 and civil wars.”

“But what does do it is statuary marble,” he continued. “So I ripped it apart and we built a bathroom that’s absolutely gorgeous and totally keeping in that time because the Lincoln bedroom is so incredible for those of you who have seen it.”

Trump’s White House renovations

The Trump administration has undertaken several other renovations in the White House in the past few months, including installing a stone patio in the Rose Garden and adding gold trim to the Oval Office.

But the most notable and controversial remains the demolition of the East Wing of the White House, which housed key offices, including that of the US First Lady, to build the ballroom.

White House to resume tours in December

On Friday, the White House announced that it will resume tours that were suspended due to the construction of the $300 million ballroom in December.

The East Wing was once part of the tour routes, but has been demolished as part of the project.

The White House says it’ll now offer “an updated route offering guests the opportunity to experience the history and beauty of the People’s House.”
