Charlie Kirk murder suspect appears in court, prosecutors allege Robinson confessed killing in note to roommate

Robinson, in one of the notes, wrote that he spent about a week planning the attack on Charlie Kirk, who was considered a key aide of President Donald Trump and was credited for energizing the Republican youth movement during the 2024 presidential election. “The murder of Charlie Kirk is an American tragedy,” Gray said.

Gray read out one of the notes allegedly written by Robinson which said, “I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk, and I’m going to take it.” The prosecutor also shared the text message Robinson had sent to his roommate which allegedly said he shot Kirk because he had “had enough of his hatred,” BBC reported.

Robinson is being held at the Utah County Jail in a special housing unit without any prospects of bail. He appeared in the court virtually as prosecutors read out the seven charges being levelled against him.

The seven charges against Robinson are: Aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm, two counts of obstruction of justice, two counts of witness tampering, and committing a violent crime when children are present.

Charlie Kirk was shot down while he was attending an event at the Utah Valley University during his interaction with students on September 10. Prosecutors have alleged that Robinson shot Kirk in the neck with a bolt-action rifle from the roof of a nearby building on the campus in Orem.
