Sikkim Assembly Election 2024 Date: India is preparing for general elections and assembly elections in some states in 2024. Sikkim is one of the eight states scheduled to hold legislative assembly elections in the ongoing year.

Currently, the state of Sikkim is governed by Sikkim Krantikari Morcha, with Prem Singh Tamang serving as the Chief Minister. The upcoming Sikkim Assembly Elections in 2024 will elect 32 members for the Legislative Assembly.

When will the Sikkim Assembly Elections 2024 be held?

The 2024 Sikkim Legislative Assembly elections are scheduled to be held on or before April 20, 2024, to elect the 32 members of the 11th Sikkim Assembly, as the tenure of the current legislative assembly is scheduled to end on June 2, 2024. However, the Election Commission of India has yet to announce the specific dates for the electoral processes.

Sikkim Assembly Elections 2024: The Present Scenario 

The Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) is presently the ruling party in the state, leading 17 constituencies within the Sikkim Legislative Assembly, under the leadership of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (P.S. Golay).

Among the notable constituencies led by SKM are Yoksam-Tashiding, Yangthang, Gyalshing-Barnyak, and Poklok-Kamrang. Other constituencies under SKM’s leadership include Daramdin, Soreng-Chakung, Salghari-Zoom, Namthang-Rateypani, and Temi-Namphing, among others.

Sikkim Assembly Elections: Recap 2019

The 10th Sikkim Legislative Assembly was previously held in a single phase on April 11, 2019, alongside the Lok Sabha elections. It witnessed a contest between the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) and the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF).

Following the election, the SDF, despite having been the dominant party in Sikkim for 25 years, secured 15 seats, leading the SKF to emerge victorious as it won 17 seats, adequate for a simple majority in the Assembly. As a result, Prem Singh Tamang (P.S. Golay) of the SKM was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Sikkim.

Additionally, various political parties, such as the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), the Indian National Congress (INC), and the Hamro Sikkim Party, contested with their respective candidates.

While the BJP had 12 candidates, INC had 24 and the Hamro Sikkim Party had 23 candidates. However, none of these parties were able to win any seats in the elections.
