Holi 2025 Date: One of the most vibrant and colourful Hindu festivals, Holi, also known as the “Festival of Colours” and Dol Jatra, or “Basanta Utsav,” in West Bengal, Assam, and Tripura, is a festival celebrated by Indians with great enthusiasm and joy.
Holi’s origins trace back to a Hindu mythological story about Hiranyakashyap trying to kill his son Prahlad for refusing to worship him instead of Vishnu.
His sister Holika attempted to burn Prahlad alive; however, contrary to their plan, Prahlad survived the fire unharmed, while Holika burnt—symbolising the triumph of devotion and righteousness over evil.
This legendary event is the spiritual foundation of Holi, celebrated by burning a bonfire (Holika Dahan) and rejoicing in the victory of good over evil.
While, in places like Mathura and Vrindavan, the festival also honours the divine love between Lord Krishna and Radha.
Since Holi falls in the Phalguna month of the Hindu calendar, Holi also marks the arrival of spring, heralding new beginnings, fresh harvests, and the end of winter.
Holi is celebrated on the full moon day of the Hindu lunar month of Falgun, typically in February or March as per the Gregorian calendar.
As the celebrations of Holi span two days—Holika Dahan will be marked on the evening of March 13, 2025 (Thursday), followed by the colour-filled celebration on March 14, 2025 (Friday).
