He had been taken to AIIMS Delhi under serious condition, following which the hospital reported his passing.
The Union government has announced a seven-day mourning in remembrance of the former prime minister, renowned as “the architect of India’s economic reforms”.
The Union Cabinet is scheduled to meet at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 27, to pay homage to Manmohan Singh, with the last rites set to take place on Saturday in the national capital with full official honours.
While all government programs scheduled for today (Friday) are cancelled, government sources told The Indian Express, everyone awaits official confirmation of a public holiday from the central government.

However, the 2024 RBI’s public holiday calendar indicates that banks in Nagaland’s Kohima district are closed today for Christmas celebrations.
As of this point, there has been no official word on whether banks will be closed on Friday, and a public declaration is anticipated.
Though the Reserve Bank of India, or RBI, provides a calendar of bank holidays each year, circumstances across the country and states could present a different scenario.
However, citizens are allowed to utilise the digital banking service on Friday. Payment mechanisms such as IMPS, NEFT, UPI, and other net banking and mobile app features will remain active.
Will schools and colleges close on Friday? While a seven-day national mourning period is in effect, no official declaration has been made about a holiday for schools and universities on Friday, December 27.
