Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Death Anniversary 2025: Today, Thursday marks the death anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj – one of the most prominent 17th-century Indian Maratha warrior kings and the founder of the Maratha Empire.
Born as Shivaji Bhosale (1630-1680 CE), earlier this year, on 18th February, we commemorated his 395th birth anniversary, and today, we’re observing his 345th death anniversary, as on 1680, April 3, Shivaji Maharaj passed away due to health complications and suffering from severe fever and dysentery at Raigad Fort.

On this day, Maharashtra and other regions honour his legacy through cultural events, processions, and tributes. This year, the President of the Nationalist Congress Party – Sharadchandra Pawar – paid tribute to him on X (formerly Twitter), writing,
“By defeating corrupt, tyrannical and unjust regimes, Shivaji established a welfare state for the people, adorned with the values of self-respect, independence, tolerance and justice. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, who went beyond caste, religion and sect and inaugurated the state of the people, is the highest ideal of bravery, courage, valour, dedication and leadership. Humble tributes to the wise king of the people on his death anniversary.”
