Aadhaar Lock/Unlock Biometric Update: Aadhaar is a 12-digit unique identity number given to Indian citizen to access government services, make secure financial transactions, and confirm their identification. Data security and privacy are always crucial for an Aadhaar number holder. UIDAI now gives people the option to lock and unlock their Aadhaar numbers, including biometric data, to boost security and control.

It’s advisable to link the mobile number with their Aadhaar before starting this process, as the OTPs (One-Time Passwords) will be sent to the registered phone number.

How to lock/unlock Aadhaar biometric devices?

Step 1: Go to the official UIDAI website at uidai.gov.in.

Step 2: Look for Aadhaar Services and select ‘Lock/Unlock Biometrics’ on the main page

Step 3: Tick the box to verify ‘Lock/Unlock Biometrics’ for locking or unlocking your biometric information.

Step 4: Type in your 12-digit Aadhaar number and fill in other needed details to complete the check.

Step 5: Verify and approve by entering the OTP (One-Time Password) delivered to your linked phone number.

After your OTP passes through, you can turn on the option to lock and unlock with biometrics. It’s important to note that locking your Aadhaar number or biometrics can limit use for authentication, adding extra security.
