Varun Agarwal, an entrepreneur based in Bengaluru, recently shared a heartwarming encounter with a woman auto-rickshaw driver who helped him late at night.
Agarwal, in an X post, recounted how he was stranded in Indiranagar after failing to get a cab, and having multiple auto-rickshaw drivers refusing to take him to Koramangala. “No auto was willing to go to Koramangala and every auto guy said no to me. I must have walked for almost a kilometre when I found this lady auto driver parked on the side of the road,” he wrote.
At first, the driver told him she was done for the day and was heading home. But as Agarwal began to walk away, she agreed to drop him. “I told her it’s okay, I’ll find some other auto, but she insisted and took me all the way to Koramangala,” he said.
Agarwal hadn’t discussed the fare beforehand and assumed it would be around Rs 300, based on Uber rates. However, the driver charged only Rs 200. “I told her it’s too less but she said it’s okay. I insisted on paying Rs 300,” he added, describing it as “one of the best auto experiences” he’s had recently.
He wrapped up his post with a simple message: “We need more women auto drivers.”

The story quickly gained attention online, with social media users praising the driver’s generosity and remarking that acts of kindness like hers show there’s still plenty of good in the world.
A user commented, “The fact that this happened in Bangalore where the autowallahs can be really scary, is such a pleasant change. An example of good feminism!” Another user wrote, “We need more women of all strata out and about at any given point in time. That’s the only way society and economy will grow. And men need to make that space since they seem to have claimed it all for themselves.”
A third person added, “This is one of situation. And You were nice. I like to believe utopia exists but I also fear women drivers will be molested if they dont look out for themselves.”
