Remember when columnist and author Shobhaa De mocked Indian Olympians at Rio saying they just go their to take selfies and how it’s such a waste of money and opportunity? Well, looks like her words are going to haunt her for long because no one has forgotten them. “Goal of Team India at the Olympics: Rio jao. Selfies lo. Khaali haat wapas aao. What a waste of money and opportunity,” she had tweeted. Later on, even refusing to apologise for it.
Well, though we hadn’t won a medal at the time, India has finally added one to its kitty. Thanks to wrestler Sakshi Malik who won a bronze for the country. So no, team India is surely not coming back “khaali haat”.
And cricketer Virender Sehwag didn’t miss an opportunity to take a dig at her right after Malik won the bronze medal.
His parody account @virendrsehwag tweeted, “#SakshiMalik ke gale me medal kitna “Sobha De” raha hai na”, which absolutely won the Internet over. The tweet went viral on social media with close to 5,000 retweets at the time of writing, and the tweet being hailed as the best response to De ever.
And guess who was among the ones who retweeted the post – Sehwag himself! That too, with a caption in his own witty style. “Bilkul , isliye Shobha Na De aise kaam nahi karne chahiye” he tweeted.
Sehwag is not the only one who is hitting at De’s famous comments. Here’s more:
Has Sakshi Malik got Shobhaa De’s permission to take a selfie now?

Though De herself has congratulated Malik, it’s difficult to say if she is regretting tweeting out those words in the first place.
