Kristen Fischer, an American who visited India with her husband in 2017 for the first time, has been residing in Delhi for the past two years. Fischer is now a content creator with over 60,000 followers on Instagram. A video in which she said that her experience of living in India has been far more fulfilling than living in the United States of America has gone viral and sparked a chatter online.
In a video titled “Why I left the USA to live in India,” Fischer detailed the contrasts between America’s “individualistic” and “socially isolated” nature and the rich “community, culture, and vibrancy” she encountered in India. Fischer pointed out that her time in India provided her with a sense of “joy” and “fulfilment” that she felt was lacking in the US, and that there is more to life than just financial success.
She began the video with the question, “Why would I ever leave America to move to India?” and noted that many people think “India is worse and America is better,” a view she considers misguided.
Fischer explained that despite her deep affection for America––where she was brought up and where her family resides––the country has fair share of significant issues.
“So, sure. You can make more money living in the US. And, if that’s your only goal in life then maybe you’ll be happy there. But, I believe that there is so much more to life than just making money,” Fischer said in the video. She ended with the belief that “Joy, fulfilment and that kind of life is what we can find living in India.”

Home will be always India.” A third user wrote, “Thank you for being so raw and candid. Appreciate it. And I agree, having experienced both worlds.”
