A young professional has sparked a lively debate on Reddit about workplace expectations and entry-level pay after revealing that the individual quit their first job just three hours into the first day. The role, advertised as work-from-home with “minimum work pressure,” required a 9-hour shift and paid only Rs 12,000 per month.
What frustrated the user most was that the listing had been promoted as a part-time position, only to be turned into a full-time role at onboarding.
“I’m preparing for a competitive exam here… They advertised a part-time job and handed me a full-time job. Can’t roll with that dawg,” they said in the comments.
The post quickly caught attention, sparking mixed reactions. Some applauded the clarity and confidence in setting boundaries, while others criticised the decision to quit so quickly.
One commenter felt the Redditor should have stuck around if it was minimum pressure and switched for better pay after gaining experience. Another pointed out the demanding schedule, saying, “9 hours 7 days a week is crazy. Why even accept something like that in the first place? You’ll find something good. Keep looking!”
Not everyone was sympathetic. A third user remarked, “Hate to be the bad guy here, but with this mentality you’re basically ineligible for every job… everyone has good and bad days, it’s not a daily standard…I remember my first day being too exhausting – I had to sign a shit-ton of documents, NDAs, contracts, what not. It was a pure headache. But I knew that this too shall pass.”
A fourth individual shared, “I was in a similar kind of job 3 yrs back, I learnt the work in 2 months then after that I was done in 4 hrs for the day and for the rest of I was free.”
A fifth person added, “The comment section is the proof that, “toxic workplace” never ends in India.”
