A candid Reddit post on the grim state of India’s job market has struck a chord with thousands online. Titled “Applied to 100s of jobs in last few months can’t even get the job of 3.5 LPA reality of the country,” the anonymous poster describes feeling stuck despite doing “everything right.”

The Redditor explained that after nearly three years of experience — including 1.7 years at a multinational company and a year at a chartered accountancy firm — plus “a BCom degree, knowledge of AI and every new trendy market requirement,” they are still unable to secure even a modest pay hike. “I cannot get even Rs 75,000 to 1 lakh hike,” the user wrote, calling it the “hard reality” of today’s workforce.

The post also pushed back against the idea that India’s youth simply need to work harder. “At last, most of the time you can’t earn money to fulfil your own basic needs,” the user lamented, adding that young Indians were promised growth and security but face underemployment and stagnating salaries instead.

Responses poured in from others sharing similar frustrations. One top comment read, “Yes you are right. Corporate Sector in India sucks. There is no Job and jobs which are there are offering 20,000 per month. It is very bad state of affairs in this country.” Another user said, “Depend on college and skills too. Majority of college are pure scams, providing no real value.”

Even those with advanced degrees say they’re not spared. “Nothing for Masters too,” an economics postgraduate from a Tier-1 college commented. Yet amid the frustration, a few tried to be optimistic: “You will get it don’t worry,” wrote one person, explaining they’d landed a job despite “zero experience and a two-year gap.”
