UPSC Civil Services Rank 239 holder Pawan Kumar celebrates with his familyAmid several success videos of top rank holders in the UPSC Civil Services exam 2023, Pawan Kumar who secured 239th rank is celebrating the triumph with his family at his mud house in Uttar Pradesh.
The now-viral video shows Kumar distributing sweets among his family members in Bulandshahr district, highlighting his financial struggle much like IPS Officer Manoj Sharma’s story depicted in Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s hit film ‘12th Fail’. The video also shows his family seated under a makeshift shed.
Sharing the video on X, IAS officer Awanish Sharan wrote in Hindi, “Pawan’s house. He got 239th rank in the civil service examination. Hardworking people write their own future.”

Reacting to it, netizens congratulated Pawan Kumar for the feat. A user shared, “Many congratulations to Pawan Ji. Seeing his house reminded me of the days when my cousin had passed UPSC in 1985. His house was even worse than Pawan Ji’s. He had retired from the post of Textile Secretary of the Government of India only last year.”
“Wow amazing performance . Congratulations Pawan ji . He gave his best to clear this examination,” another commented. “Inspirational … One can make one’s own future and destiny through sheer grit, hardwork and belief,” the third user reacted.
According to reports, Pawan Kumar hails from Raghunathpur village in Uttar Pradesh. Son of a farmer, Kumar completed his education at Allahabad University and later moved to Delhi to prepare for the Civil Services examination.
Meanwhile, Aditya Srivastava, an alumnus of IIT Kanpur, topped the UPSC Civil Services 2023 exam. Srivastava and Animesh Pradhan scored AIR 1 and 2 respectively, followed by Donuru Ananya Reddy at the third spot.
