Japan is synonymous with capsule hotels, also known as pod-style hotels, that provide cheap yet tidy accommodations featuring small, bed-sized rooms and other prerequisites. The concept has now reached Uttar Pradesh’s Noida, and the pod hotel promises travellers a unique experience. It has even grabbed industrialist Anand Mahindra’s attention on social media.
A travel vlogger recently stayed at NapTapGo, a pod-style hotel in Noida, and shared her experience on X. In a series of posts, Somya, the vlogger, shared that she opted for a capsule with a single bed with a mirror, manual and centralised locks, a panel with different settings and charging points, and an entertainment centre.

Soon after the post gained traction, Anand Mahindra reacted to it. “That looks pretty cool. I’ve always thought that the capsule hotel concept (first seen in Japan) would be ideal for the expansion of functional & clean hotel rooms in India, giving a filip to budget travel. But how many of you agree? Would you find this claustrophobic?”

Several users flocked to the post made by Mahindra. One commented, “Even though the roof looks much taller and roomier than a railway berth, still claustrophobia does kick in for me.” Another user wrote, “It is not for all, but definitely there is a customer base for it. Given our volumes, small fraction choosing itself is big number, but cost is key differentiator.”
“These would make perfect sense in office hubs and night spots in towns like Bombay and Bangalore. One can catch a good night’s sleep and leave fresh in the morning,” a third user said.
