There has always been an endless debate among foodies about which city has the best biryani. While Hyderabad, Kolkata and Lucknow are often dubbed as the cities known for its delicious varieties of biryani, there is also another contender from across the border, Karachi.
Pakistan cricket team players who are in India were asked about their preference between Hyderabad biryani or Karachi biryani in a video posted by the official account of ICC Cricket World Cup on Instagram. Pakistan captain Babar Azam rated Hyderabadi biryani 8 out of 10. However, he said it is a “bit spicy”. Hasan Ali, who is married to Indian flight engineer Samiya Arzoo, said if one is in the mood for biryani then it is ten out of ten. He said he likes Hyderabadi biryani more.
Imam-ul-Haq, nephew of legendary Pakistan batter Inzamam-ul-Haq, said it is fantastic and rated it 11 out of 10. “It’s too good,” he added. Shadab Khan said he had heard a lot about Hyderabadi biryani and it is quite famous all over the world. He said after coming to India, he ate Hyderabadi biryani first and said it should be rated 20 out of 10.
Asked if Hyderabadi and Karachi biryani is similar, Azam said it can be called similar except the Hyderabadi iteration is spicier. Imam-ul-Haq said it is tough to choose which is better as both are very nice.

“I think skipper don’t like spice,” a user commented. “Love how pakistani players loved our hospitality,” said another. “Divided by nations united by biriyani,” wrote a third.
Pakistan begin their World Cup campaign against the Netherlands at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Friday. The highly-anticipated India-Pakistan game is scheduled to be held on October 14 in Ahmedabad.
Pakistan lost both their warm-up matches against New Zealand and Australia. After their 14-run loss to Australia in Hyderabad yesterday, stand-in skipper Shadab Khan joked in the post-match presentation that their fielding lacked the edge because of the players feasting on Hyderabadi biryani daily since coming to India.
