On Friday, the Shimal Centre of the India Meteorological Department in Himachal Pradesh issued an orange alert for heavy rainfall in several areas of Lahaul-Spiti, Kullu, Kinnaur, Mandi, Chamba, Kangra, and Shimla. According to ANI, 583 roads in the state, including five National Highways, have been choked due to heavy snowfall and rain. A video of commuters, including tourists, struggling amid the chaotic scene triggered by snowfall, rain, and an avalanche in Manali is doing rounds on the Internet.
Shared by the Instagram handle @kasol_scenic_valley, the viral video captures numerous vehicles trapped in floodwater and heavy snowfall. In one scene, two motorcyclists struggle to maintain balance on the slippery road after the snowfall, while several other vehicles navigate through the floodwater dangerously.

On Friday, a cloudburst in Pahanala Khad, Kullu, swept away several vehicles, while another cloudburst occurred in Chhota Bhangal, Kangra district. Glacier slides were reported in the higher regions of Kinnaur and Bharmour, and an avalanche hit the Kumar Panchayat in Pangi Valley, Chamba district, isolating the entire area.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu urged people to keep their distance from rivers and streams and follow the necessary guidelines. “I have been taking stock of the situation since morning. All people are requested to be cautious and follow guidelines issued by the administration. Stay away from rivers and streams,” ANI quoted Sukhu.
Meanwhile, four people trapped in an avalanche at a Border Roads Organisation (BRO) project in Mana, Chamoli, Uttarakhand, have died from their injuries, the Indian Army confirmed on Friday. Rescue operations continued for a second day, with 50 of the 55 trapped people now declared safe. However, five remain unaccounted for.
