A video showing a large amount of garbage piled up in Bengaluru’s MS Palya has triggered outrage against the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palika (BBMP).

Shared by an X handle @karnatakaportf, the viral clip shows garbage spread to approximately a kilometer of the MS Palya road. “Bengaluru, once proudly known as the “Garden City” for its lush greenery and clean environment, is unfortunately transforming into a “Garbage City” due to the poor waste management practices and inefficiency of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP),” the handle wrote.

Demanding the BBMP’s intervention, the handle wrote, “The BBMP must step up and take urgent measures to address this crisis. This includes increasing the frequency of garbage collection, penalizing littering, educating the public about waste management, and ensuring proper disposal methods.”

The said video amassed substantial reactions as several users slammed the authority over poor waste management. A user wrote, “The problem is bbmp won’t collect garbage from people nor have they allocated designated places to throw it.” Another user commented, “The more the open dump, more is the risk for pourakarmikes this cleaning after certain period, same time posing risk to environment.”

“What a shame!” a third user said.

In May, a similar video stirred up attention on social media, prompting billionaire entrepreneur Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw to react to it. Sharing the video of the garbage piled up in the city after heavy rainfall, Shaw wrote, “Disgusting sight. @BBMPSWMSplComm needs to act swiftly to clean up this ugly mess.”
