Durga Puja festivities kickstarted on October 9 with stunning pandals ready to be unveiled in several parts of India. However, West Bengal’s Kolkata remains the epicentre of the Hindu festival that celebrates Goddess Durga. Several artists put out their best pandal works across Kolkata. Amid the celebrations in full swing, a video of a unique raindrop-themed pandal at Salt Lake AK Block is winning plaudits on social media.

Based on the theme of rainwater conservation, the pandal was created on a budget of a whopping Rs 75 lakh, a Mint report said. The viral video shows several utensils—metal and plastic—placed in a pit that collects water droplets falling from the roof and creating the sound of the traditional dhak.

Sharing the video, an Instagram handle @calcuttacacophony wrote, “Kolkata never fails to surprise us.”

“I hope all visitors don’t make noise while visiting this pandal,” a user said.

Another video of a metro-themed pandal paying tribute to the Green Line underwater metro took over social media. The pandal’s theme is inspired by the pollution of the Ganga River. The pandal is placed at Kolkata’s Jagat Mukherjee Park.

“It is Kolkata Metro’s 40th year, so the theme of this puja pandal is ‘Platform Howrah Maidan’ (underwater Metro station). By showcasing the Metro passing under river Hooghly, we aim to highlight the city’s progress, while drawing attention to the pressing issue of Ganga pollution,” Subal Pal, the chief artist behind the pandal told indianexpress.com.
