A woman’s late-night Uber ride recently struck a chord online after she shared a heartfelt moment that reminded many of the power of simple human kindness. Posting under the username @Ok_Box3456 on Reddit, she titled her story “God bless that Uber Guy." The incident happened around 10:30 pm, after a quick stop at the post office with her colleagues. She hailed an Uber to head home, got in, shared the OTP, and the ride took off. “Simple. Right?” she wrote. But just a few seconds into the journey, she realised she’d accidentally put in her office address instead of her home. Blaming the drizzle and general rush, she asked the driver to pause so she could update the drop-off point. That’s when things took an unexpected turn, the driver declined, saying her revised location was in the opposite direction of where he was headed. Left with no choice, she told him she’d cancel and book another cab. But stepping out onto the “middle of the main road which was not well lit and kind of spooky. It felt unsafe,” she added. That’s when the driver surprised her. “Ma'am, aap doosri cab karlo and jab tak na ho aap car mai hi baithe raho. Aise raat mai road pe kaha aap akele khade rahoge. Accha nahi lagta aise,” (Ma'am, please sit inside the car till the next cab arrives. Why would you wait in the middle of the road at night. That doesn't feel nice,) he told her. In that moment, she said, “My heart felt instantly happy and it gave me a sense of safety.” Though he wasn’t in a position to take her to the new address—he hadn’t eaten, was feeling under the weather, and was heading home—he waited with her until her next ride arrived. He didn’t leave until she was safely inside the second car. She ended her post with a thought that clearly resonated with thousands: “The whole time till I reached home and even now I think about how a small gesture can make somebody safe and secure at odd situations. Hope that he’s doing well now.” Take a look at the post: https://www.reddit.com/r/delhi/comments/1m0dlif/god_bless_that_uber_guy/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button Since being shared, her story has received a wave of love from fellow Redditors, many praising the driver’s decency. Many shared similar experiences. Another woman living in Delhi commented, “As a woman living alone in Delhi I must say that I too have had mostly nice experiences with Uber drivers (ik bare minimum).” Another user commented, “this was such a heartwarming read. sometimes it’s not the big things, just small moments of basic humanity that stay with you. glad he looked out for you, honestly, drivers like him deserve all the good things. had a similar moment once and it really reminds you that kindness still exists out there.” A third person shared, “I booked a cab once for my grandma but after a while she vomited. Cab guy dropped her back. Didn't charge us for any trouble caused.. agreed to have a tea instead and left.” A fourth individual shared, “this happened to me when i came to delhi for the first time my train was late reached at 1 am since it was winters the station was full as well so i booked a cab and was constantly on call with my boyfriend but when my drop off location came he didnt let me get out of the car till the moment someone came down to pick me up as my place was across the road he made sure i went in before leaving. i wanted to give him extra money but he refused and said itna to farz hai.”
