As rain batters Delhi, netizens share videos of flooded roads and submerged vehicles, lament civic apathy

The IMD has issued a red alert for the eastern parts of Delhi-NCR and a yellow alert for other areas.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for Delhi and the eastern parts of the National Capital Region (NCR) Tuesday. Several videos of commuters battling severe waterlogging and traffic snarls in the early morning hours emerged on social media, with many users criticising Chief Minister Rekha Gupta over the city’s poor preparedness amid the intensifying monsoon.

Another video shows severe waterlogging in the Kamala Nagar market area in Delhi. The clip captures the half-submerged vehicles parked outside the closed shops.

According to a PTI report, the Met Department has forecast moderate to heavy rain, accompanied by lightning and surface winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kmph. A red alert has been issued for the eastern parts of the NCR, while a yellow alert remains in effect for other areas.

The regional met centre reports that the current spell of rain is expected to persist until August 3. According to IMD data, Delhi received 8 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours ending at 8.30 am Tuesday.
