With Diwali, the festival of lights, approaching, several working professionals living away from their families often experience burnout and fear of missing out. Amid the conversation around work-life balance in India, a Delhi-based PR firm is winning hearts after its CEO, Rajat Grover, surprised his employees with a nine-day Diwali break.

Sharing the announcement about the Diwali break, an employee from the organisation wrote on LinkedIn, “People talk a lot about the workplace and work culture. A genuine workplace culture is characterised by an employer who consistently places the needs and well-being of their employees at the forefront, recognising that a thriving workforce is the foundation for organisational success and innovation.”

She went on to express her gratitude for being given the chance to celebrate Diwali with her family, adding that she deeply appreciated Grover’s thoughtful leadership. “Being employed at an organisation that genuinely values and promotes employee well-being is a true privilege,” she said.

“And the best part, for once I being the HR was not aware about it and to my surprise I was not the one sending this email to employees. I was just another employee smiling at my screen, already imagining long evening chatters, late-night laughter with cousins and the joy of simply being with loved ones,” she wrote.

In his email, Grover encouraged his team to fully disconnect during the holiday, urging them to “avoid official emails, share late-night laughter with family, and eat lots of sweets.”

The post garnered applause, with a user saying, “Truly inspiring to see a workplace where employee well-being isn’t just spoken about but genuinely practiced,” a user wrote. “Waao, this is how it should be for festivals. In US and other countries, companies go on holidays especially during Christmas, but here in India, even on our festivals we have to work like crazy,” another user commented.

“Redefining initiatives that build loyalty and so reassuring people that their personal lives are given equal importance,” a third user reacted.
