The earthquake originated just 5 km beneath the earth’s surface at the Jheel Park in Dhaula Kuan, according to the National Centre for Seismology.
“This is a 20-25-year-old tree. This must have happened due to the earthquake because there was nothing like wind or thunderstorms or anything else. Workers said that when they had a round at the park after the earthquake, they found the tree uprooted,” ANI news agency quoted an official.

Talking to the ANI, Dr O P Mishra, director of the National Centre for Seismology, said there was no cause for concern. He explained that the aftershocks, being of lower magnitude, are natural and will help dissipate the effects of the 4.0-magnitude earthquake.
Soon after the earthquake, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged people to follow the necessary precautions. “Tremors were felt in Delhi and nearby areas. Urging everyone to stay calm and follow safety precautions, staying alert for possible aftershocks. Authorities are keeping a close watch on the situation,” PM Modi wrote on X.
