Actress Deepika Padukone is a youth icon that has always given fans and followers life goals and life lessons drawing from her personal life. She was one of the first actresses to speak about depression publicly, inspiring many to speak about the psychological disorder, addressing prejudices around depression and showing people that celebrities, too, are human.

Padukone, who was recently featured in an ad by sports brand Nike, along with Indian women athletes such as hockey player Rani Rampal, footballer Jyoti Ann Burrett and cricketers Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandana and Shubhlakshmi Sharma. Sharing the uplifting ad with the Nike tag line #JustDoIt, Padukone talks about how sport taught her to handle failure.

The 30-year-old actress starts the post with three tenets passed on to her from her father – “the three D’s – Discipline, Dedication and Determination”, going on to say how being an athlete actually helped her fight depression, giving her the “strength to fight and never ever give up!”
