British rock band Coldplay set the internet abuzz as the band, in collaboration with BookMyShow, opened the booking window for the Mumbai concerts on Sunday. However, the fans were left disappointed as BookMyShow crashed minutes before the booking and further got sold out, with the waitlist skyrocketing to 11 lakh.

Coldplay will perform at the DY Patil Sports Stadium in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, on January 18, 19. Given the increase in ticket demand, the band added another show on January 21, 2025. However, many fans failed miserably to secure tickets to the third show as well. Several thronged to X, accusing BookMyShow of cheating.

Anirudh Garg, an X user, shared a video of ticket availability, claiming he failed to book tickets despite the ticket availability being 30 per cent. “I still can’t believe it, What happened with me! It’s Cheatin. It was my turn, Ticket availability was around 30% each for 4 stands as soon as I selected, showed not available. This is literally heart break!” Garg wrote on X.

Many users, on the other hand, are conducting giveaways for Coldplay tickets in exchange for likes and retweets. “Giveaway alert. Giveaway 4 #Coldplay tickets. Like & Rt we will select 4 lucky winners and will give 4 tickets for Free,” a user wrote. Many users are sharing the same screenshot promising similar giveaways as part of what is called “engagement farming,” which is basically an attempt to increase engagement using provocative posts.

“Unfortunately, I won’t be able to attend the Coldplay concert, but I’ve got 4 tickets up for grabs! If this post reaches 100 retweets, I’ll give them away to some lucky fans. Good luck!” another user posted.

The waitlist for booking the tickets hit 11 million.

The ticket-booking platform made a post on X warning people about ticket scams. In a post, it said, “Protect Yourself from Ticket Scams! Don’t fall prey to unauthorized platforms selling fake tickets for Coldplay’s Music Of The Spheres World Tour 2025 in India!”
