Dining at expensive restaurants, particularly those that have a celebrity name linked to them, has become a hallmark of modern foodie culture. From gourmet meals to exclusivity, these establishments offer the celebrity’s personal style and choices. However, Sneha, an Indian School of Business student in Hyderabad was recently left disappointed by Virat Kohli‘s restaurant chain.
The student, in her X post, shared that she ordered bhutta (steamed corn on the cob) and paid over Rs 500 for it. The snack is usually available for prices as low as Rs 30-50 on the street. “paid rs.525 for this today at one8 commune,” she wrote on X.
The accompanying picture showed an appealing presentation of bhutta, garnished with coriander leaves and lemon. It was served with a spread.

The post quickly stirred up attention on social media with many slamming the student for criticising it, highlighting that such restaurants mostly charge for the ambience and brand value they offer.
Many, however, shared their experience at One8 Commune and mentioned how they were disappointed. “You paid for the “community” One8 has created. the people hanging around, the music, the vibe … coming from the high rent, higher than average staff salary, etc etc etc,” a user reacted. “Well, usually, they charge for the ambience. Food is anyway basic. But the ambience makes it better,” another netizen posted.
“I just didn’t like the place. Firstly, they have some issue with chappals (Birkenstocks). Second, every single dish we had was underwhelming. The price didn’t justify the product,” a third user said. “They made you pay Kohli tax,” another commented.
