A Redditor recently shared a harrowing experience of an auto-rickshaw ride booked through ride-hailing platform Rapido, where the driver demanded extra charges and hurled abuses after being denied the extra amount. In the viral post, the passenger, who used a spam account to hide their identity, claimed that the driver showed him an image of a bill dated March 15, 2025.
“I had booked an auto through Rapido from my college to my home, and while the entire trip went fine (the auto came with a different number plate, which is quite usual so I didn’t care), upon reaching, he showed me a photo quoting a price higher than what was shown on my phone (338 against 256). The image of the bill had the date ’15 March 2025′,” the Redditor shared in the post.
The passenger also claimed that the driver refused to show the Rapido app and allegedly threatened to slap him. “I repeatedly asked him to show me the app, and he switched from shouting to cursing me for not knowing Kannada,” the user claimed.
In the post, the Redditor also mentioned that the driver ended the trip only 30 minutes after he got paid. “I eventually paid the amount he said, and he ended the trip 30 minutes later, 2.4 km from my destination. Now, I want to complain to Rapido for said incident, but he knows my location and I’m scared that he do something,” the post read.

The post garnered over a thousand upvotes and at least two hundred replies, with one saying, “Never drop off right in front of or next to the residence location. Always do it near a nearby shop or at the entry gate or anywhere away from your house or anyone’s house for that matter.” Another user commented, “Auto people are rowdies. I am not sure what you can do against this incident. Report to rapido, get some refund. But for next time, try bikes/cab. Avoid auto.”
“Same thing happened with me , I retaliated and slapped him a fight broke out between us he pulled out a knife. Thank god the cops came on time,” a third user commented.
A similar incident occurred in December last year in Mumbai, where a Rapido driver threatened a techie after she declined to cancel the ride. The woman had shared a screenshot of the driver’s abusive message on the social media platform X.
