A Bengaluru auto-rickshaw driver and a woman recently engaged in a heated debate, with the driver accusing the woman of booking two autos simultaneously, and cancelling his ride via the Ola app, while she insisted she hadn’t made any booking.

The driver, Pavan Kumar, alleged that the woman initially booked his auto but later cancelled it to take a Rapido ride, leaving him waiting unnecessarily. He expressed frustration over what he perceived as inconsiderate behaviour toward auto drivers. However, the woman countered, arguing she had only compared prices across different apps and hadn’t finalised any booking.

The woman even called her father during the confrontation, saying, “Papa, yeh auto-wala mereko pareshan kar raha hai. Humne nahin kiya iska booking (Dad, this auto driver is harassing me, I didn’t make any booking.)”

The situation escalated when the woman suggested the issue was with the Ola app itself, saying, “App mein dekho. Aapka app ka problem hai, Ola app ka. Zyada nautanki mat karo (Look at the Ola app, the problem is with it. Don’t create drama.)”

Following the argument, Pavan Kumar shared his perspective on X, questioning the woman’s rude behaviour and the use of offensive language. He tagged the Bengaluru City Police and other authorities, asking, “How right is it for passengers to use rude and obscene words for the driver like this?”

Suchita Banerjee, an Instagram user who claimed to be a friend of the woman in the video, made a comment giving the woman’s perspective of the incident.

“She is my friend and this is half of the video which is posted here. Before judging to conclusions, would like to clarify that this was a huge blunder by Ola app where she just checked to view the price and the cab got automatically booked. The auto driver just posted the video where she screams in the end just because that guy harassed her tremendously by snatching the keys of the auto and not letting her go. She complained to the women’s helpline and also reported to ola but yet to hear back from them. She is still traumatised by the incident as and when I am typing this. App owners really need to work on this, like seriously,” she wrote.

Another user commented, “I don’t understand who gave the right to speak to a customer about confronting and harassing them after her constant denial, even if she booked let the Ola app charge her cancellation and whether she booked three or four the auto guy has no say.”

Another user said, “Auto drivers in Bangalore have lost their senses completely, and act against customers with lot of hatred.”
