A Reddit post last week featured a man with over a decade of banking experience sitting on a footpath on a busy city road, holding a handwritten message.
The viral post shows the man holding a note written in both Kannada and English, seeking financial assistance. “I don’t have job, no house, please help me. I have 14 years of working experience in banking,” the note read.
Along with the message, the man also held a smaller sheet with a QR code for financial contributions. Sharing the photos, a Reddit handle @Being-Brilliant wrote, “Came across this man at a prominent Bengaluru signal. As heartbreaking as it is to see him, I keep wondering is this a result of society failure or personal choices?”

The post quickly drew attention, evoking a fresh debate over job security in India, with several social media users criticising the man for failing to manage his finances. “Unfortunate. Share more details of him if you have it. People may help him and recommend him based on his CV, he has 14y “Banking” experience not IT,” a user wrote. “Right, and a banker who hasn’t planned his personal finances properly with 14 years of experience?! Not impressive,” another user commented.
“Wait so he lost his certificates or like did they get destroyed? Whatever it is it’s unfortunate. But if it’s just his unwillingness to work or find a work then that’s his personal issue,” a third user reacted. “This guy isn’t interested in working. I spoke to him about a job, but he just got irritated. On Monday he’ll be sitting near the Someshwara Temple entrance, and on Tuesday at the Subramanya Temple in halasuru,” a fourth user claimed.
