Zubeen Garg, who lent his voice for Bollywood songs such as “Ya Ali,” “Jane Kya,” and more, passed away at the age of 52 in Singapore. He was scheduled to perform as a cultural brand ambassador for the North East India Festival, slated for September 20 and 21. On September 19, members of the Assam Association Singapore reportedly took him on a yacht outing, during which he allegedly lost consciousness while swimming. He was rushed to Singapore General Hospital, where he was declared dead.

Days after his passing, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the CID was formed to probe the case. Garg’s family also filed a separate complaint with the CID, demanding a thorough investigation. On October 1, Assam Police arrested festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta and manager Siddharth Sharma from Delhi airport and Gurgaon, respectively, and brought them to Guwahati for questioning.

Later, the police also arrested Garg’s bandmate Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and co-singer Amritprava Mahanta. The Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court in Guwahati sent both Goswami and Mahanta to 14 days of police custody.

Meanwhile, all seven accused in the death case have been sent to a 14-day judicial remand, The Sentinel reported.
