An intense solar storm, which hit Earth on Friday, triggered breathtaking light shows in the sky across several countries. On Saturday, the storm created auroras in Ladakh’s Hanle, leaving the Internet stunned.
Several videos of the rare occurrence took over social media. Instagram user Vincent Ledvina shared a video showing how he witnessed aurora lights in Hanle. The video opens with a view of the Taj Mahal and further shares how Ledvina reached the outskirts of Hanle. “Can’t believe I got this shot all the way from India! This is such a rare occurrence here, I am so stoked! Who saw the aurora last night? We just had the strongest geomagnetic storm in 20 years,” Ledvina wrote.

The video garnered over 119,920 likes and several reactions. “You are really so lucky man,” a user wrote. “We got Aurora in Munich! And welcome to the most breathtaking part of India!” another user commented.
In a time-lapse video shared by an X handle @NewsIADN, one can see a crimson hue slowly covering the sky in Hanle. Sharing the video, the user wrote, “Aurora lights witnessed in India. The Science, Technology and Innovation in India shared a video on X displaying an aurora of dynamic patterns in the Hanle’s sky. “This is the biggest Geomagnetic storm since 2003 in terms of its strength as the flaring region on the Sun was as big as the historically important Carrington event that took place in 1859,” the handle wrote.

Meanwhile, Starlink, the satellite arm of Elon Musk’s SpaceX, warned on Saturday of a “degraded service” due to the geomagnetic storm that struck the Earth.
