Sharma, who was named Player of the Tournament for his brilliant performance in the Asia Cup, racked up 314 runs in seven innings, including three consecutive fifties. He extended his lead at the top of the ICC T20I batting rankings, pulling 82 rating points clear of second-placed Phil Salt of England.

In a remarkable run that saw him finish as the leading run-scorer of the Asia Cup 2025 and earn the Player of the Tournament award, the Indian opener broke a long-standing record by reaching an all-time high rating of 931 points, the highest ever recorded in T20I history.

According to the International Cricket Council (ICC), Sharma surpassed the previous best of 919 points, set by England’s Dawid Malan in 2020. What makes the achievement even more extraordinary is that the 25-year-old only made his international debut last year. Yet, in the Asia Cup alone, he scored 314 runs across seven matches at an average of 44.85.
